Description

Adults, take a moment and look back—before you understood the cross, before the resurrection meant anything to you. What did Easter revolve around in your mind? The candy? The eggs? The bunny? The new outfit? The family meal? It is sobering to realize how easily hollow things captured our attention then… and how subtly they still capture the church’s attention now.

Now imagine Jesus Himself walking into the average American church on Easter weekend—not the portrait of Jesus framed and hanging on our walls, but the Jesus of John 2. What would His eyes fall on first? What would He celebrate as true worship? And what would He confront as clutter, compromise, or distraction?

John 2 reminds us that Jesus is never passive when the holy gets mixed with the hollow. He steps in. He overturns. He purifies. And He still does. This sermon addresses those important facts.
