Psalm 1
Gather, Grow, Give Go - A Process of Discipleship
The Way of the Abiding Disciple
Last week, we learned from Jesus in John 15 that abiding in Him is the next step on our journey. Abiding is where the life of the vine—the Holy Spirit—flows into the branches and gives us the power to live a godly life.
But here is a problem I have observed: for some Christians, the only visible expression of their faith is church attendance, and the only time they encounter Scripture is when they are sitting in a pew. That is not what it means to abide. Abiding is not a weekly visit; it is a daily relationship. It is walking beside Jesus while His life dwells within us. And one of the primary ways we draw life from Him is through the daily intake of His Word.
When we root ourselves in Christ and His Word, abiding becomes the soil where spiritual growth, stability, and fruit naturally take shape—just like the tree planted by streams of water in Psalm 1, and just like the believer who is “rooted and built up in Him” in Colossians 2.
